PROJECT
The owners of the beloved Oak Grove Market jumped at the chance to expand their community-brand by creating an elevated, boutique restaurant and cocktail bar in the same complex. They were in search of an eclectic brand that would embody the soul of the one-of-a-kind neighborhood in Decatur, GA.
RESEARCH
The ultimate goal for the restaurant was to develop a neighborhood hub where old friends could catch up, while other customers could discover kindred spirits and create new friendships, all while enjoying high-end cuisine and top shelf cocktails. The atmosphere is elegant and lounge-like, with a curated menu based on steaks, inventive small plates and classics. The inside of the space has teal, velvet booths, a premium bar aglow with clever neon signage, and is covered in magnificent portrait murals by artist, Liz Haywood.
VISUAL ID
Dani Lou Illustrates developed a set of organic shapes of many colors, shapes and sizes to represent the diversified community that Kindred calls home. For each piece of collateral built, the shapes shift and transform, so they are never the same design twice- much like the patronage of the restaurant is ever-changing from day to day.
A handwritten script was chosen for the brand typography to add a personalized touch at first-sight.
The color palette was chosen to pair well with the beautiful decor planned for the inside space, with some bold pops of color to highlight the fun neon signage behind the bar.
Using this branding system, Dani Lou Illustrates was able to build out dynamic designs for six menus, outdoor signage, chef aprons, promotional gifts, web assets, merchandise and to-go packaging for the restaurant’s grand opening.
